Our Mission

The Clinton County Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets the history of Clinton County.

The Clinton County Historical Society fulfills its mission by
  • collecting and preserving artifacts relevant to the history of Clinton County,
  • encouraging research into local history,
  • maintaining Clinton County Historical Society owned structures and sites,
  • recommending the preservation of other historical structures and sites,
  • presenting educational programs,
  • and cooperating with other organizations interested in historical preservation.

Our Story

In 1921 a small group of concerned citizens, dedicated to preserving local history, founded the Clinton County Historical Society. In the ensuing years CCHS has grown tremendously with the continued goal of preserving the County’s treasures,  and sharing  them with the public through free  programs and special displays, community events, history camps, and programs for children.

The main offices are in the Victorian Heisey House Museum, 362 East Water Street. We offer research facilities and resources on people, places and things in our County’s history.  Reasonable fees apply. The museum and grounds are available for rental for private meetings, parties, and events.  Please call us for rates and availability.

We are a non-profit 501 C (3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.  We are also all-volunteer and rely heavily on our many volunteers to conduct research and tours,  run fundraising efforts, and help with all and everything at the museum. A 15-member Board of  Directors, elected by the membership,  manages the collection, properties, and business.
